It’s been three years since I last used Photoshop, yet I haven’t been able to live without it for a moment. I realized when I started using Lightroom, that it lacked some of the features that are common to Photoshop. In the past, I’ve taken to using a flash drive rather than the internet to capture images (using PS and ACR). You can pre-shoot using a flash drive but it can still be nice to have access to some of the more advanced features. Lightroom and Photoshop are basically the same application with a few key differences
1. Photoshop has slightly more options, and is a larger program so again, will typically take up more space on the SSD (or HDD, though not as much) and of course, takes up more power. Other than that, they basically are the same.
2. Photoshop has many more functions for image manipulation, and many of them are extremely powerful.
3. Photoshop applies many more settings to your images before and after editing (which can be helpful).
4. Lightroom is a fully integrated and streamlined user interface. It allows for more editing, and is a lot quicker at this, because you are not navigating a large interface as much.
5. Photoshop has all of the basic image adjustments that you’d need to get started. Lightroom has more options, but other than that, they are pretty similar.
6. Lightroom allows you to preview your images while editing them.
7. Photoshop allows you to view two images at once without a grid
But for those who are very familiar with Photoshop, I think most people would just find Lightroom more user friendly.
Not all photographers take advantage of it, or know how to use it, or how it works. That’s why we are here. We’re here to help. Photoshop’s skill growth is an investment on our part. And it’s a section that we can support with our portfolio of photographers.
There are so many photographers out there that sell their old gear, or work simply because it’s all they know how to do. There’s no shame in that. We simply can’t afford to provide everyone that comes our site with the latest and greatest out of photoshop. So we have to make a couple of decisions. We limit the number of photography influencers on the server (ie photoshop, lightroom, etc, etc). We also choose to prioritize new users behind those that have been around for a while. The next version of Photoshop Classic, which is also referred to as Photoshop 2020, will be released this year, offering a completely new user interface, a redesigned workspace and an enhanced feature set.
