Four years ago, I went on a first-person rampage reviewing the new features of Acrobat XI. It took a while, and it was good to see the experience for professionals and amateurs alike. I’m glad that I wasn’t one of the three photographers at the product launch that was so upset by the gaudy and distracting extra ad content at the bottom of the review screens. While I don’t want Photoshop spoiled from the inside, Adobe should also tone down the emphasis on advertising. Let’s face it, we’re all in this together.

All reasons, whether they are technical, e.g. elements like the new Spot Healing Brush, or aesthetic, e.g. Adobe is treating its developers in a different way, have been addressed. It’s not just that the Touch Bar is gone, but the Interactive Crop option is here to stay. The only issue that remains is that the Crop feature remains in the same location. One other minor gripe is that the new Crop tool doesn’t allow you to use Open Aspect Ratio and Straighten features of the app. Otherwise, the new tools are smart and intuitive, letting you quickly balance the image to then manually adjust it by tweaking the white and black points. Import still has the same grubby status as before. By grubby, I mean that even though the software has been improved immensely on the technical side, there is still a lot of room for improvement on the user interface (UI) department. For example, the Import menu is cluttered and lacks organization. You can see the AI enhancements that have been made to the Retouch tool. Virtually all of my minor complaints regarding Apple Photos are emulated in Lightroom.
